Legal experience
Charles Kelly has spent over forty-five years practicing law and managing an office with up to three employees. He is often in the courtroom handling civil litigation and criminal and juvenile proceedings. Chuck routinely represents buyers and sellers in real estate transactions, solves taxation issues, advises for-profit and non-profit corporations, and handles family law matters such as child custody and divorce.
Education and personal
After earning a Bachelor's degree from the University of Iowa in 1973, Chuck attended Drake University in Des Moines and received his Juris Doctorate degree in 1976. He moved to Postville and started work in what is now the Charles Kelly Law Office in July of 1976.
Chuck has memberships in the Allamakee County Bar Association, the Iowa State Bar Association, and the Volunteer Lawyers Project. He is a past member of the Iowa Supreme Court Commission on Unauthorized Practice of Law. He holds the following licenses: The Supreme Court of the State of Iowa for the practice of law, #2891; Western District of Wisconsin for the United States Federal Court; and the United States Tax Court.
On a personal note, Chuck is an Eagle Scout, a former Scoutmaster for Postville's Troop 41, and a twenty-year member of the Board of Directors for the Northeast Iowa Whitetails Unlimited. He is married and has three adult children. On a fine day when work permits, you are likely to find him working in his elderberry orchard or riding his motorcycle on twisty local roads.
